The Clan Maule (of Scotland) claim descent from Guarin, son of Pierre de Maule of France. On that very memorable date - 1066 - at the age of 19, Guarin accompanied William of Normandy to England. Following the conquest of England, William placed Guarin in the Castle of Aytoun, Yorkshire, as part of the North of England defence system. There are now many thousands of Maule descendants. The town of Maule is approximately 15 miles outside of Paris.
Although history books and Internet genealogy sites can now bring the name of Maule smack-bang up-to-date, my family have painstakingly traced our descendants back to 1730.
